What does a reference absorption count mean?

Manufacturers’ “number of voids” labels commonly use approximately 150mL per reference void. These are reference values, not a guarantee of a number of actual urinations without leakage. Leakage also depends on body shape, urine volume, posture and fit. Check hip size and body fit as well as the number.

This is the author’s practical view in the context of this product, rather than a general manufacturer instruction for all tape-fastened adult diapers.

Choosing absorbency and using the products

When there will be a longer interval between changes, such as overnight, check the absorbency needed together with a size that fits the body. Even with a higher reference absorption count, change the diaper while checking for leaks and the condition of the skin. Prolonged use can cause discomfort or skin problems.

Whether to use tape-fastened adult diapers alone or with an incontinence insert pad depends on the situation of the wearer and the person assisting them. Putting too many insert pads inside to prevent leaks can create gaps and bulk. Returning to a simple arrangement using 1 tape-fastened adult diaper on its own is another option. I have suggested this approach to people who subsequently experienced fewer leaks. It is one option to consider.
