Incontinence insert pads for pull-on adult diapers are replaceable pads worn inside the diaper. This article introduces their shapes, fitting and selection, with retail product examples from 7 manufacturers in Japan. Product information was checked against the manufacturers’ official pages on October 3, 2026.
Features of pads for pull-on adult diapers
Some pads designed for pull-on adult diapers have a 2-fold shape or fixing tapes that secure the pad inside the diaper. The diagrams below compare them with a typical 3-fold pad. Fold formats and tape positions vary by product, so also check the instructions for the product you use.

Fitting a pad inside pull-on adult diapers
To reduce the risk of falling, change the pad in a stable seated position. Place the pad inside the standing leak guards of the pull-on adult diaper, and keep the fixing tapes at the front and back away from the skin.

To remove the pad, peel off both the front and back fixing tapes before taking it out. Pulling it out forcefully may damage the inside of the pull-on adult diaper. For fitting instructions, also see the official guidance from Unicharm Japanese and Hakujuji Japanese.
Points to check when choosing a pad
Absorption counts are manufacturer reference values. Many products use 150mL per reference void as their basis, but the product needed varies with actual urine volume, posture and fit. These reference counts do not guarantee a particular number of actual urinations. Also check that the pad’s length and width fit inside the standing leak guards of the pull-on adult diaper.
Do not add a “2-void” diaper label and a “2-void” pad label together and treat the combination as “4 voids.” Kao advises using the pad’s reference absorption count when the products are used together. Use only 1 pad inside the pull-on adult diaper rather than layering several pads.

Summary
Choose pads for pull-on adult diapers by how they fit inside the diaper, how easily they can be secured and the reference absorbency needed. Even products with higher reference absorption counts, such as overnight pads, can leak or feel uncomfortable if the size is unsuitable. Start by choosing 1 pad that fits properly inside the pull-on adult diaper.

Do not decide on the absorption-count number alone. Also check that the pad fits inside the pull-on adult diaper and is easy to change.
